I decided to research further Concrete Amsterdam, the Architectural and Interior Design agency that designed Zoku.
They designed the interiors of Hotel Norge, in Noway. A giant sun that changes colour throughout the day is the centrepiece of this space and builds a unique atmosphere throughout the lobby. I like the fact that the designers have taken into consideration the importance of natural light and have looked to create a substitute.
"Since sunlight is scarce in Bergen, Hotel Norge offers its guests eternal sunshine at its core. Catch a glimpse of the light, be drawn into the lobby, and take the escalator up to the 2nd floor to the heart of the building." (Concrete, Amsterdam)
"Concrete created the perfect guest experience for locals and travellers alike, by creating the lobby in the former ballroom on the second floor, and transforming the former lobby on ground floor to a vibrant brasserie like cafe. A set of escalators was introduced to connect the two. The hotel is a collection of unique curated spaces, with a different array of ambiances that capture Bergen."(Concrete, Amsterdam)
Concrete also designed Mendo, Amsterdam.
Although not a hospitality space, I wanted to include Mendo in my blog as it is somewhere I used to shop whilst living in Amsterdam
The simplistic design highlights the product and the dark flooring and fixtures create an atmosphere that makes you want to stop, pause, and enjoy browsing the collection of books.
