London Design Biennale 2021: Trend Analysis

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

All of the above themes are relevant to my project and show my project to be current and in keeping with design trends.

In particular:

  • Resonance through craft

  • Connecting with nature

  • Contemplative design

Presented in partnership with Project Everyone, the emotive installation outlines the UN goals to eradicate poverty, inequality and climate change to create a better and fairer world for all by 2030.

Anglo-American artist Beatie Wolfe has designed an environmental protest piece using 800,000 years of the world's climate data, which intends to present the data in an alluring way while using the power of art and music to make it evocative.

Indonesia's installation explores problems the indigenous community faces in public housing, as it often disregards the communal culture and their psychological needs. The installation proposes a future of inclusive design and social equality.

Sustainability is at the core of contemporary crafts gallery Ruup & Form’s Quiet Garden. The contemplative installation by Naomi McIntosh is filled with suspended wooden sculptures, which represent nature through material choice.

Interactive or immersive experiences connect audiences to Earth, either through natural resources or its ancient origins.

Sensorial experiences spark contemplation to help people consider their wider impact on the planet and connect with one another.
